Chapter 23 - The Book

Harith recoiled, heart hammering in his chest. The words weren't just heavy; they felt alien—like they weren't his own thoughts, just a seed planted deep inside him, nurtured by the temple.

"S-So, you're the one w-we left back then?" He had to ask, his voice faltering, but the truth was unraveling, and he couldn't stop it.

The woman nodded.

"I—I remember the ritual, I remember everything... perhaps..." Harith snapped, gripping his head, desperately clawing at the pieces of memory. "B-But why? How did we forgot about it?! About you?! H-How did we even dare leaving you alone h-here?" But those fragments were slipping away faster than he could hold onto them.

The figure, still hunched beneath the statue, gave a small, pitying laugh. "It's funny, isn't it? I was supposed to ask you the same. Why did you chose to leave me of all when all of you knows I am scared of the dark?! You only thought of saving yourselves! What about me?! I thought you, guys, are my friend?!"
