Chapter 422 - Northern Front: Battle In The Snowy Region

(Third Person POV)

[Northern Front, 50 Miles From The Town The Defensive Forces Were Camped In]

In the middle of a snowy field, littered with some pine trees, there was a clash between Magic Council forces and Alvarez soldiers. These were a small regiment of Magic Council mages that Warrod, The Wizard Saint had taken under his command to aid the guilds on the Northern Front.

The Alvarez soldiers were slowly overwhelming the Magic Council mages, hitting them with several magic projectiles and elemental blasts that blew the council mages away. As they were locked in fierce combat, the Magic Council mages attempted to keep them at bay, trying to buy as much time as possible.

Suddenly, a massive shockwave erupted at the frontline of the council forces, dozens of Alvarez soldiers being flung in the air as they screamed in pain.

"Get him!!" Some of the shouted, "He's the most dangerous one!!!"

Several soldiers were being blown away by the second by a lone figure that had cleared up a small clearing with his overwhelming strength.

"Gihii!!" Gajeel smirked as he punched some soldiers away, "Push through! Don't let these imbeciles get any closer to the town!"

A couple of meters away, Rogue was swinging his arms, sending a barrage of shadows at the soldiers and blowing them away.

"We have wounded at the town, we cannot let them advance through." He said, "If we lose this battlefield, then all is lost!"

Gajeel scowled, "Shut it Raios!" He growled, "I don't need your depressing attitude here!!"

"Iron Dragon Pole!!!"

Gajeel shot his massive iron pole at the enemy, causing a powerful shockwave that sent several soldiers flying. He then lunged at a crowd and swung his leg at them, extending into another long iron pole that hit dozens of them and sent them flying away.

Rogue lunged at soldiers and turned into his shadow form, going past them from underneath and appearing in between them, swinging his arms outwards and sending a massive stream of shadows that hit them all.

"Shadow Dragon's Waxwing Flash!"

The attack sent several soldiers flying as the rest backed up in caution of these two dragon slayers.

"What the hell are these guys?!" a soldier exclaimed

"They're strong!!" Another said, "They're pushing through our forces like nothing!"

Gajeel smirked, "Gihi!" He said, "I'll clean you up in no time! Last time, there was no time for me to go wild! Now I can go crazy all I want!"

Both Gajeel and Rogue continued to push through, blowing away dozens of soldiers by the second. As they rampaged about, the incoming waves of soldiers proceeded to slow down due to the firepower these two dragon slayers possessed.

Lily and Levy were also fighting alongside the council mages, but they were far behind the two dragon slayers who decided to get ahead.

"What're they doing?!" Levy said, "I told Gajeel not to get too ahead of himself!!"

Lily scowled, "That idiot!" He said, "And Rogue is enabling him as well, it's not helping!"

"Oii!!" They turned around to see Sting running past them with a smile, "I'll go and join them!"

"Wait, Sting, no!" Levy exclaimed

But it was too late, Sting began to lunge deep within the enemy's side, punching through them like nothing, causing several shockwaves by the second.

"This is not good." Lily said, "If the Shield's magic-bane particles attack them first, they will go down easily!"

"I know!" Levy said, "Jason said he was on his way and he'll send the support around the same time he arrives!"

Atop a cliff, overseeing the battle, Bloodman stood silently with his arms crossed. He was watching how despite his forces being overwhelmingly more than his enemy's, they were still resisting better than he anticipated.

"Even with the ocean of black upon thee..." He started, "Thou still resists....Thou hasth not experienced the true horror of mine death..."

"My my..." He heard a voice say, "What a scary thing to say..."

He turned around to see Larcade standing behind him, his arms in a praying gesture as he looked at Bloodman with a slight smile.

"Larcade..." He said, "and..."

Next to Larcade, stood a man who had his arms crossed. He was as tall as Larcade, slim, and wore a casual suit outfit. The only thing that stood out from him was the deer head he was wearing draped on his head, it's large antlers covered in dried blood.

The man had a pale face with light-red eyes that looked like they were devoid of light. He also had brown messy hair that the deer's head on top of his head didn't do any favors.

"Erigor." Bloodman said, "Have you stationed thine forces like thou hasth been asked?"

Erigor silently nodded.

Larcade chuckled, "Erigor is an obedient shield after all." He said, "By the way, Bloodman. What shall you do about this battle? They seem to be resisting well."

"As discussed, Larcade." Bloodman said, "I shall take the frontlines. Thou shall stay behind while mine battle ensues. Mine death shall open the way for the rest of the armies."

Larcade nodded, "Very well." he said, "I expect successful results. Let us go, Erigor. We shall wait for the way to open!"

Erigor slightly nodded and turned around, walking away as Larcade followed.

Bloodman turned around and looked down at the battle, seeing the massive shockwaves that were caused by the fighting.

"Hm.." He said, "The time hasth come.."

*******************************************

"Alright, that's good!" Sting exclaimed, "Most of our forces have pushed through them! Keep it going!"

He was referring how the council mages had pushed through and managed to overwhelm the Alvarez forces in the front and managed to scatter themselves past the point where Rogue, Sting, and Gajeel had been fighting.

Gajeel jumped away from several projectiles, "Yea!" He said, "At this rate, we might be able to win this!"

"Don't get ahead of yourself, Gajeel!" Rogue said, "It is too early to tell!"

"What was that?!" Gajeel growled

Minerva appeared next to them, her hands covered in her spatial magic, "Rogue is right." She said, "There is still plenty more of them to come and their commanders haven't been defeated yet."

"Gihi!" Gajeel smirked, "Leave me one of them, I'll take him out!"

As he said that, they heard screams in the distance.

"What the..." Minerva said

Suddenly, there was a massive aura that was being released from further in front of them, the air began to shake and the air around them darkened a bit.

Sting stopped and sniffed the air, "What's that stench??" He said, "It smells like...rotten flesh..."

Rogue covered his nose, "Wait, guys!" He said, "It's the same as last time! Magic-bane particles!"

Minerva widened her eyes, "It's him!" She exclaimed

Further away from them, several soldiers were covered in a dark misty aura as they fell to the ground, clutching their throats.

"B-Bloodman-sama!!" They screamed

The mist also touched several council mages as they, too, collapsed to the ground writhing in pain.

Bloodman slowly walked past the crowd of Alvarez soldiers that were affected by his particles. He had a cold smirk on his face that could be seen through his mask as his cloak fluttered in the cold winter wind.

"Thine sacrifice shall suffice." He said, "For the sake of slaughtering the enemy, thy deaths are necessary."

He then waved his hand, releasing a massive wave of particles that hit the crowd of council mages in almost an instant, covering the field with a miasma of magic-bane particles that meant sure death.

"I am The Reaper." Bloodman announced himself, "Thine lives are mine to take. Thou are no match for me."

Gajeel scowled, "This ain't good.."

They watched as the miasma hit the crowd of both council mages and soldiers in front of them. It spread outwards in horrifying speed, making it's way to them.

"Everyone, back!" Minerva yelled snapping her fingers

Suddenly, she teleported them all away by a couple dozen meters, avoiding the miasma wave of death.

"Shit!" Sting said, "That was close!"

"T-Thanks, M'Lady!" Rogue said as he wiped sweat from his forehead

"I just hoped I could've saved more..." Minerva said as she looked over

She was referring to the fact that she could only teleport a couple council mages aside from themselves.

"What do we do-" Rogue started

"Attention, Ally Mages!!!" They heard a booming voice from a loudspeakers

They all looked up to see a strange airship, to them that is, hover in the air above them. Jason was looking out the window with his hand holding a microphone.

Minerva widened her eyes, "Jason!"

"Move out of the way from the smoke." Jason said

They all looked down to see several smoking signals on the ground, scattered on the field.

"What the hell...?" Sting said

"Do as I say." Jason continued, "The support I promised is on its way!"

As they all moved out of the way, several massive projectiles crashed against the ground, causing massive shockwaves. As the dust cleared, they were revealed to be massive pods that dwarfed all of the mages there.

Levy ran up to one of them and looked up, "J-Jason!" She said, "This is!"

Then, Jason and Kagura jumped out of the helicopter they were on and landed next to Levy.

"Yep." Jason said, "Come and gather around!"

"This is our way to win!"
