CHAPTER 106: CONSPIRACY THEORIES

"Something must have triggered it," Harry suggested, his eyes fixed on James. "I mean, your powers didn't just appear out of nowhere. Do you remember anything about the first time it started?"

James closed his eyes, a wave of pain washing over him. "I can't remember," he murmured, his voice barely audible.

James held his hand to his head, straining to recall. A sudden sharp pain in his nose forced him to open his eyes.

"James, your nose!" Henry exclaimed. Victor quickly grabbed a tissue and handed it to him.

"This happens whenever I try to recall that day," James explained, his voice strained. "It's like a blank spot in my memory."

"What about Antonio? Did he remember or see anything?" Jerry asked.

"I've asked him countless times. He said he only saw me using the powers and heard me shout. That's all".

"It sounds like the powers awakened suddenly, and the memory loss was a side effect," Jerry theorized.

"Or maybe someone wanted those powers to awaken," Jared added, a dark look crossing his face. "And they erased your memory to prevent you from recalling how it happened,"

"That's not entirely impossible," Harry agreed. "Or maybe he found out something—something that triggered the powers, something painful or shocking enough to block out the memory."

James's mind raced, trying to piece together the missing pieces. The more he thought, the more the possibilities seemed endless.

"Well, it still hinges on Jared's theory," Henry said. "Someone must have known he was capable of such powers, but they were likely dormant. To trigger them, they might have made him discover or do something they knew would activate the power".

All these theories point to the fact that the power has been in him all along," Victor concluded. They all nodded in silent agreement, their minds racing.

"James, this is why we need to run more tests to understand how Diana got pregnant. And I need to identify the gene responsible for your abilities."

"You can have my blood, but not Diana's."

"Well yours will be enough for now," Harry said, conceding.

"So, what are you going to do now?" Jared asked breaking the tense silence. "Will you tell Diana what happened here today?"

"I don't know. I'm not sure yet," James responded. "I need time to think".

A phone call interrupted their discussion. "It's for you, James," Jared said, handing him the phone.

"Hello, Angelo," James said as he answered the call.

"Good evening, boss. There's a problem at the office".

"Is it urgent?" James asked.

"Not really, I just thought you should know".

"Send me the details. I'll meet you at the office tomorrow".

James checked the time on his phone—it was past eight. He quickly stood up.

"I'm leaving."

"But we're not done talking," Jerry reasoned.

"Well, I am," James said, walking right out the door, leaving his friends to ponder their theories.

Mainly, he left because he didn't want Diana to worry about him. He was surprised when he got home to find she wasn't there. Instead, she was with his grandmother, and they were both laughing heartily. She didn't seem as concerned as he had expected, which was why he had ignored her.

Later, she told him that she loved him no matter what—not even murder would take him away from her. His heart felt full beyond words.

He looked at the woman lying peacefully in his arms and smiled. He didn't want to think about anything else at that moment or what might happen in the future.

Just the thought of her loving him was enough. He kissed her once more on the forehead and drifted into a peaceful slumber.
