Recognition and Tension

For a full, heavy moment, Ruby could only stare in shock, her breath catching in her throat.

They looked exactly as she had remembered them.

The taller older one, Alec, had sharp blue eyes and a roguish smile that had undone her the night they met far too easily. He had a commanding presence, the kind that filled a room without him needing to say a word. He smiled but nothing about it was nice or friendly.

The younger brother, Damien was slightly broader, his dark hair a little tousled, his blue eyes somewhat darker than his brother's,holding the same lazy, dangerous amusement they'd had when he whispered sinful things into her ear at night. He rarely smiled seeing no need to be less intimidating.

Both were dressed immaculately in sleek suits that hinted at their power and status, but Ruby barely registered the expensive fabric.

She wondered if they had attended the gala and she wondered how she was able to not identify them.
