Chapter 2 - Outpost (2)

Seth locked onto the four Druin Elite Druin warriors fully armed and ready for an attack. The alarm had not been raised, and he was ready to end his stay on this hot, dark planet.

The rifle in his hand was raised. He knew he would only be able to put one down with his weapon, as the shields would be deployed before he could fire again. 'The tactic I normally use on normal level Druin may not work here' he thought to him self

'starting the attack from a distance and then close the gap or should I get in close and start in close range where their shields would be almost useless.' He was unsure each Elite Druin was equivalent to many Druin Soldiers more well equip and better trained.

If he did that, he would need to get close before they noticed him. Luckily, he had a plan for this situation. A fool proof plan with just one condition, he would need to run.

He took a small disc off the side of his thigh. Winding back his arm, he pressed it against the ground and slid it as hard as he could into the group of Druin. Before they could react, the little disc was within their formation. The Druin looked down at it just before it exploded, sending the Elite Druin flying.

Seth took off running at the Druin elite guards. Taking out his sword, he moved swiftly and closed the gap between the Druin and himself as fast as he could. As he closed the gap the smoke began to dissipate enough for him to see where they had landed. The Druin that was closest to the explosions was very injured on his lower half blood pouring from the places his legs were moments before. The other three had minor injuries from the shock waves and the shrapnel, they had pieces of debris lodged into their armour and ears bleeding, they were disorientated from the blast. He swung his sword, decapitating two Druin in one swing. He then knelt down near the last, lightly injured Druin and stabbed him through the eye.

The blood clung to his sword, and he slowly walked to the last Druin.

The Elite Druin warrior looked Seth in the eyes as he moved closer, Seths sword was wet dripping with the blood of the injured Druin's comrades.

Seth drew closer to the injured Elite Druin.

The Druin grumbled and growled at him the eyes of the Druin darted around the room.

Seth panicked ran at the Druin full speed, not wanting it to complete what it was trying to do. As he brought the sword down on the final Druin an alarm sounded the rooms light changed. He knew it was coming sooner or later this much noise would not go unnoticed.

Seth looked down at the last Elite Druin's dead body and smiled. He had killed the Druin in time.

Beep, Beep, Beep

Or so he thought.

Three small beeps came from the chest armour of the dead Druin.

Seth dove to the side to avoid it, an explosion swept him away still being caught in the explosion of the Elite Druin, blowing himself up.

Seth just managed to get his shield up before it happened, but the explosion still shot him across the room. His body slammed into the podium as he fell limp besides it with a thump, his own blood flowing into his eyes his body was stiff and not responding well.

"Damn zealots" he cursed as he slowly used the podium to help himself to his feet.

"At least bargain for your life, not just blow yourself up, give me a chance" he kept complaining. He was hurt, really hurt from the explosions.

As he got up, the alarm still blaring, the room was flashing with blue light, and an eerie blue bathed the whole outpost.

"Fuck, this shit is annoying" he cursed as he hit the podium multiple times. He turned and moved beside the closest Elite Druin bending down he cut off the lifeless hand and used it to grab the Druin's spear before plunging it into the podium.

With this he was able to turn off outside communication. 'The Druin behind me will just turn this back on' said Seth as he circled the podium and placed three explosive discs around the podium and set them to go off in 30 seconds.

"If only I could set them for longer, but this place is about to be swarmed with Druin. This is the most I can do without being killed"

The outside of the outpost was swarming with the Druin running into the building that was glowing a rhythmic blue light that led straight into the outpost.

"What happened?" said a Druin Soldier

"I don't know, get in there" yelled another Druin

The Druin outside the communications room were confused as to what was happening but nonetheless ran into the compound spears raised. Following them a minute later were more heavily armoured Druin coming from the barracks bidents and tridents raised in their hands to protect the key sections of the outpost and rushing into the communications hub to take care of the enemy.

Seth had slipped into a grate and into the sewer.

Seth was slowly working his way out of the outpost. He was injured and knew he would need to fight again soon; he had completed his mission, but with the extra security it became increasingly harder to get in and out of the outpost unnoticed. His last resort was the only option.

"Calling Beta team. Come in Beta team I need an extraction"

"Rodger that blue hound, what is your location?"

"I am in the sewers on the northeast side of the outpost, below building F"

"Rodger, are you needing a distraction at the gate or an in-person extraction?"

"I am able to move, and I'll be able to get out as long as the guards at the front are thinned out"

"Got it, a blowback project. It will take seven minutes to get into place. There is an exit to the sewer closer to the main gate. Go north, then on the first junction go east, we will be waiting beyond the main gate."

"Rodger that" said Seth with less than overwhelming enthusiasm.

Seth made his way to the sewer opening close to the main gate. He lifted a heavy grate before exiting. The main plaza lay ahead of him, one of the only open spots in the entire outpost. Seth moved from cover to cover moving closer to the main gate.

"How long until you are at the main gate?"

"I can see the main gate, 500 meters"

"Hold position, there is a delay in the distraction"

"How long?"

"Seven minutes"

How am I going to hide for seven minutes when I have no idea what the distraction is? It might last for a long time, it might not. I need to be closer to that gate he thought to himself.

Seth looked out at the open area in front of the gate.

"Can we make it sooner?" asked Seth hoping it would be a yes.

"No, we cannot get back to the main gate and detonate the needed explosions within less than seven minutes"

'Shit, what am I going to do? How am I going to hide for seven minutes? I am not even sure how many Druin will be killed by the explosions'

'I can't go back to the sewer and wait as it is too far from the gate, I won't be able to get out in time. Damn what will I do.'

Seth looked across the open area before the gate.

The Druin had the gate heavily fortified and patrolled. There were far too many guards to take out personally.

The alarms had lessened the number of guards around the gate, but now all that is left is the elite heavily armoured Druin.

"Do you know what is happening?" Elite Druin 1

"Some explosion. Our communication relay station is down and there was someone sneaking around. This is an infiltration attempt by those damn poison bloods" Druin 2

"How did they get in?" Druin 3

"I don't know, all I know is that they won't be getting out of here alive" Druin 4

"The humans are far more dangerous than our forefathers will admit. If they knew how fast humans adapt, and the monsters they become when that poison begins running though their veins, they would have whipped them out when they meet them less our gentle civilisation would be resorted to this."

"They are such vile creatures"

"Rats I say, rats that's what they are"

"Yes rats"

"You, know the elders are saying for the peace of the galaxy those war hungry humans may have to be wiped out"

"For the greater good of the galaxy we must eradicate these rats from all habitable planets"

The Druin's grunts and growls reached Seth's hiding spot. He was paying attention to make sure the Druin did not get the drop on him. He could not be found, or it would be the death of him, he was hurt and his fighting ability was lower than normal, he could not guarantee he could kill two Elite armoured Druin if they were not ambushed let alone the more than ten Elite Druin solders were in front of the gate, guarding.

But he was not going to fight them out in the open, he was here to kill them, not to fight with honour.
