[Kikoe]
Before we could enter the next floor, some wires sealed off every entrance. We had to cut some of them to enter.
I looked behind me, scanning the area where I last saw Rei but just as before, it was too far even to reach. Only after scanning did I know that the whole third floor was barricaded in various ways, which no one incapable of thinking would undo the ties and knots. Or they could be bold and destroy everything but can lead to attacks in all directions.
The fourth floor was admittedly peculiar. Very different from every floor we've seen before. Everything was clean and untouched.
"This is somehow scarier," Noel who showered the hallways with his light slowly walked with caution. "How is this even possible," he read my thoughts.
"It's as if the breakout didn't even happen," I murmur, inching as close as I could to him. "There," my night vision was able to see the pharmacy's sign board.
"Hey, wait up," his hushed tone, demanding. He walked towards me, lighting our back and making his footsteps lighter.
"Let's just get this over with," I say, about to open the glass door when suddenly there is an ear-piercing screech, followed by a gunshot and a tiny flicker of light.
"Holy shit!" he gasped, almost falling from the sudden shaking of the ground. Those horrendous sounds of feet shaking the whole floor, running towards the noise gave me a fright.
"Get in, quick," I pulled his arm inside the store as soon as I was able to pick the lock of its door. "Hide," I grabbed his head to duck down the shelves.
After the rumbling, both of us exhaled our reliefs.
"What happened?" my head picturing a horrifying scene that must have happened to her as I asked Noel who was peaking above the shelves.
"I don't think we even needed to hide," he finally stood up and dusted himself, turning on his flashlights once more. My eyes wandered inside and outside the shop. "Those came from the third floor," he continued.
"What the heck happened," Cedrick suddenly shouted in our ears.
"We don't know too," I answered calmly to his breathless gasps.
"Are you in some kind of trouble too?" Noel asked as we both stood, worried and frozen.
"Kind of—" his calm tone became uneasy after remembering our answer. "What do you mean you don't know?" his grunting made us more anxious on the current situation. But Noel tried to calmly explain what he had missed since we last saw him.
"I knew about the second-floor accident, but after that shot and scream, I can't contact her anymore," he then proceeds to pull the triggers often but it wasn't as loud as he had silencers.
"Now that you mention it, don't all of us have silencers too?" I blurted out.
"A civilian must have been carrying a gun then," we then heard him run as he let out a few gasps and exhales of air. "I'll go catch up to her as soon as I finish, you guys should hurry too," were his last words before we stopped interfering with his tasks.
"As he said," I only nodded to Noel's lead, opening the bags and putting everything my hand could get a hold of.
[Rei]
I opened the new map photo and hurriedly stride towards the scream for help.
I couldn't get the feeling that something anomalous was going on here. Every floor had a different aura around it. And I could tell that this third floor is the most menacing one yet.
I picked up the pace, readying my blades. The flashlight near my ear started wobbling but before it could fall off, I caught it and pointed it straight ahead where I heard sobbing and running footsteps. They were being followed by growls.
The closer I got to the helplessness, my eyes could finally perceive the glistening eyes that clung to the desire to live.
Two tiny children were being followed by one unOrdinary.
"Rei, how's it up there?" Cedrick started sounding troubled in my ears. But I was in no position to reply.
I tossed one of my knives towards its head which allowed me a few seconds to pull my gun out and shoot its legs, causing it to fall as I finally got the kids behind me.
"Here, hold this," I gave the tiny boy my flashlight and dropped my bag on the ground near them. Their shaking hands pointed in my direction.
I could hear their stifling cries as the lights shook. But I could still see glimpses of the unOrdinary and that was enough as I sliced its neck with my remaining knife.
"Rei?" he repeated. "You there?" Still not losing hope for the reply. Then giving up after a few tries.
I pulled my other knife out of its head and was about to run back to the other two shivering kids when I heard multiple running steps approaching. A weak gleaming light revealed another kid, running for his life from two creatures, holding a stool leg and almost drained flashlights.
"Focus that on them," I kept my voice as silent but loud as I could to him. This time, I threw both my knives toward the two unOrdinary heads but one missed, sticking to its neck.
I pulled the boy's arm that held the wooden leg. "Let go," I said and threw him near the others as I launched myself in front of the two hungry bastards to swing it as hard as I could.
The first one fell, but before it could stand up, I stood on top of its body and pulled out the knife that was stuck in the neck and used it to slice the other's neck who approached rapidly.
The body plummeted down as I got my pistol to shoot the one under me multiple times on the head. I grabbed my other knife that was deep inside the severed head.
Rocking the knife, the head bounced a few feet away from where I stood and its gooey blood splattered over my clothes.
Catching my breath as I walked back towards the other three, a sudden scream made me turn behind. Then it was followed by a loud gunshot.
I closed my eyes, trying to remember the floor map, and hurriedly turned left to shoot the doorknob of a small staff room. "Kids!" I shouted to their earshot as my prediction slowly became a reality.
I ran towards the kids who were shivering in fear as the ground started to shake. "There!" I grabbed my flashlight from the tiny boy, along with the bag, and pulled the oldest-looking kid up, pushing him toward the direction where I pointed my light.
He pulled the tiny boy to run with him as I got the tiny girl in my arms and followed behind.
I could feel them getting closer as I took my last step inside the cramped janitor's closet. Holding the door shut, the girl almost choked me from hugging my neck while the other two were holding and gripping each of the fabrics of my legs.
All four of us felt the hoard of wild beasts rushing towards their potential dinner, some even slammed the door as they ran. With each passing moment, the children shivered and held their cries to the point they almost suffocated themselves.
